Ren Hui's Reflections on Shangpa Rinpoche's Birthday.

Singing the long life prayer for Shangpa Rinpoche on his birthday was definitely a memorable moment that I would always remember as a strong source of motivation in my path of practice as a Buddhist. Shangpa Rinpoche has always been such a compassionate and wise teacher in my life and many times when obstacles came my way, his blessings and wisdom always brought me through them. When the opportunity arose for me to show my gratitude towards Rinpoche through music, I felt that there was no better way than to offer what I loved the most to Rinpoche as a gift for his birthday.

Through this process of composing the song to fit the long life prayer for Shangpa Rinpoche, I realized the most important thing that could not be left out when singing any form of mantras or prayers was the sincerity from the heart. With this motivation in mind, I took it into resolve that to offer this gift of music to Rinpoche at its best, I had to sing with the heart.

During the actual offering of the long life prayer, I dug deep into the gratitude I felt for Rinpoche and sincerely requested for his long life through the music I sang. Yet again, even when it was me offering this music to Rinpoche, I felt the happiness I always felt when I talked to Rinpoche or when I sought guidance from the Buddha.

Once again, I sincerely wish for Rinpoche to live a long and healthy life to turn the Dharma wheel and inspire people, like he has to me, to always follow the Buddha's teachings and ultimately gain enlightenment.
