Sponsoring the Nyungne Retreat of the Anis of Tharpa Choeling Nunnery
- Devotees of Shangpa Rinpoche are invited to Sponsor this meritorious Dharma event which the Ani's of Tharpa Choeling Nunnery will undergo from 5-12 November 2006.
Nyung Nay / Nyungne (roughly translated into "fasting" in English) is a powerful Vajrayana practice to purify negativities as well as accumulate merits. Bhikshuni Phalmo received the practice directly from Chenrezig. It is one of the most effective practices to purify one's defilements, meditators of the past have been known to purify diseases and negative karma through this practice. However, the principal purpose of the practice is the attainment of Enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings.
A Nyung Nay retreat is normally spread over 2 days. Retreat participants practise the sadhana of 1000-armed Chenrezig, meditate on bodhicitta, recite the Mani mantras and perform countless prostrations. Participants are required to take and maintain the 8 Mahayaha precepts for the retreat. On the second day of the retreat, there are additional vows of abstinence from eating, drinking or talking for 24 hours.
Ani's Nyungne group retreat from 5 - 12 November 2006
40 Nuns from Tharpa Choeling Nunnery in Muktinath under the care of Venerable Shangpa Rinpoche, will be doing 4 sets of Nyung Nay group retreat from 5 - 12 November 2006. This is a particularly auspicious time for spiritual practice as 12th November is Lha Bad Duchen, which commemorates Buddha's descent from Tushita Heaven after teaching his mother in the realm of the gods. It has been said that the merits accumulated on that day will be multiplied by million folds.
Equally, sponsoring and supporting spiritual practice at such an auspicious time can generate immense blessings and merits. Devotees may contribute towards this meritorious event by either sponsoring individual anis or sponsoring part of the retreat. Whether your contribution is large or small, the offering to the participating Ani's will generate boundless merits if made with a sincere heart. You may also dedicate the merits from making such offerings to your parents, kin or karmic debtors for the purification their negative karma, for peace and harmony in the world or for the elimination of all natural disasters and diseases.
