Verses on Co-Emergent Wisdom and Interdependence |
དངོས་པོའི་གཤིས་སུ་གྲུབ་པའི་གནས་ཚུལ་དང་། The establishment of the true nature of all phenomena and 构成一切现象的真实本性， ཀུན་རྟོག་སྒྱུ་མའི་མདངས་ཀྱི་སྣང་ཚུལ་གཉིས། The complexion of phenomena revealing the false appearances from the concept, 分别所生虚妄诸相之面目， གཉིས་ཀའི་ངོ་བོར་བལྟས་ཚེ་བདེན་པས་སྟོང་། Through examination, each of these entities are lacking its true nature, 详察分析实质本性无可得， སྟོང་དང་རྟེན་འབྲེལ་སྲིད་པའི་འཆིང་ལས་གྲོལ། The only way to liberate from the shackles of existence is the realization of emptiness and interdependence. 唯了空性缘起斩轮回枷锁。 |
ཕ་རོལ་ཚུ་རོལ་ལ་ལྟོས་ཤིང་། Opposites are mutually dependent upon each other. 对立的彼此 是相依的， བཟང་པོ་ངན་པར་ལྟོས་པ་དང་། Good exists in dependency with bad. 好 依附着坏 而存在， ཆེ་ཆུང་མཉམ་དང་མི་མཉམ་ཀུན། Likewise, big versus small, even versus odd. 如是 大 小 奇数 偶数 རང་ངོར་གྲུབ་པ་རྡུལ་ཙམ་མེད་། Even a particle as fine as dust is not established independently by it's own nature. 乃至微尘 也没有独自成立的自性。 |
འདྲེན་བྱེད་ཡུལ་དུ་འཆར་བའི་གཟུགས་བརྙན་དང་། The appearances of outer phenomena from visual, 可眼见的外在形色显现， ཀུན་རྟོག་གཡོ་བའི་ལེགས་ཉེས་ཆེ་ཆུང་སོགས། The interpretation of the ceaseless waves of conceptual thoughts such as good or bad, big or small, 心分别好坏大小无间断， རྟེན་ཅིང་འབྲེལ་བའི་དབང་གིས་བསྐྱེད་པ་ལས། It germinates from the forces of interdependency only. 凡依因缘法则力量所生， སོ་སོའི་ངོ་བོ་བཙལ་ཡང་རྙེད་དུ་མེད། There is nothing to be found if one tries to find it's true nature. 其真实本性终究不可得。 |
རང་བཞིན་དངས་པའི་སེམས་ཀྱི་མེ་ལོང་ངོགས། To the clear mirror-like mind, 心的自性如明鏡般， མཛེས་སྡུག་སྣ་ཚོགས་རི་མོའི་སྒྱུ་རྩལ་བཞིན། The beautiful muses reflect like exquisite artwork. 映現善妙之念 如精美畫作， སྣང་ཡང་གྲུབ་མིན་ངོ་བོ་རྙེད་དུ་མེད་། Though appear vividly, their true nature can't be found. 雖然清晰顯現 其本質卻不可得， སེམས་ཉིད་སྲིད་དང་མྱང་འདས་ཀུན་གྱི་གཞི། That mind is the basis of samsara and nirvana. 那樣的心 即是輪迴與涅槃的根本。 |
མིག་གིས་མཐོང་བའི་དངོས་པོའི་བྱད་བཞིན་དང་། The faces of forms perceived by the eye, and 眼睛看到的形形色色、 རྣམ་རྟོག་གཡོ་བ་ལེགས་ཉེས་འཛིན་སྟང་གིས། The grasping of virtues or faults created by the ceaseless waves of conceptual thoughts, 随着无间断的妄念波动 执取功过， ཉོན མོངས་སྡུག་བསྔལ་བསྐྱེད་པའི་གཞིར་གྱུར་ན། Thus resulting in the basis of all sufferings and emotions. 成为所有痛苦烦恼的根本， བདེན་འཛིན་འཁོར་བའི་འཆིང་ཐག་ཅིས་མི་བཀྲོལ། Why not unbind the grasping knot of illusory cyclic existence? 何不松解执著如幻轮回的结？ |
རིག་པའི་རྩལ་ལས་འཆར་བའི་སྣང་བ་དང་། རང་བཞིན་གྲུབ་པ་མེད་པའི་གཤིས་ལུགས་གཉིས། ཡུལ་ཅན་སྟེང་དུ་གཅིག་ཅར་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་པ། ཟུང་འཇུག་སྟོང་དང་རྟེན་འབྲེལ་ཟབ་མོའི་མདངས། The appearance which is projected from the potency of consciousness and, The true nature that is primordially not established as it is, Both of these spontaneously function within one single instance. That is the wonderful vitality of emptiness and interdependence. |
བདེན་པའི་རྩེ་མོར་ལྟས་ཚེ་ཨེ་བདེན་སྙམས། རྫུན་པའི་རྩ་བ་མཐོང་ཚེ་བདེན་ནམ་སྙམས། རྣམ་རྟོག་གཡོ་བ་ཆུ་ཡི་རླབས་ལྟ་བུར། བདེན་རྫུན་བདེན་པར་གྲུབ་མིན་མཇའ་ཚོན་ལྟར། सत्य को शिखर लाई हेर्द, सत्य मा सत्यता को उपशंका उब्जायो? असत्य को जरा लाई हेर्द, असत्य मा पनि सत्यता को सन्देह आयो? यी परिवर्तित सोच विचार हरु,अन्त्यहीन समुद्री लहर जै, पाए यथार्थबिहिन दुवै सोच हरु, सत्यबिहिन इन्द्र धनुष जै. When I see the tip of truth, I wonder is it really true? When I see the root of falsehood, I ponder if it is truly false? The conceptual thought moves like the ceaseless waves of the ocean. Thus the reality of truth and falsehood are not established but (all is) like an illusory rainbow. |
འཁྲུལ་པའི་ངོགས་སུ་འཆར་བའི་གདུང་བ་དང་། ཤེས་རབ་དབྱིངས་སུ་འཆར་བའི་མྱང་འདས་གཉིས། སེམས་ཀྱི་གཤིས་ངོར་གཅིག་དང་ཐ་དད་བྲལ། གང་ཤར་རང་གྲོལ་གཉུག་མ་ལྷན་གཅིག་སྐྱེས། The suffering that appears in the midst of confusion. The nirvana that appears in the sphere of wisdom. They do not sustain as a sole entity or collectively within the mind. Thus all appearances liberate themselves co-emergingly. |
ལྟར་སྣང་ལས་ཀྱི་རླབས་ཕྲེང་གཡོས་པ་ལས། ཚུར་མཐོང་བདེ་སྡུག་སྣང་བ་གྱ་མ་གྱུ། གསལ་རིག་སྟོང་པའི་སེམས་ཀྱི་རང་གཤིས་སུ། སྐུ་བཞིའི་བཞིན་རས་གསལ་ལ་འགག་མེད་ཤར། (Rough translation for consideration) From superficial karma's quivering series of waves, comes the Samsaric outlook's scheming appearances of happiness and suffering; From the clarity and awareness in the state of the emptiness mind, the appearances of the four Bodies clearly and continuously manifests. |
Verses on the Guru, Lineage and its Blessings |
ཤུལ་རིང་མགྲོན་པོ་ལམ་དུ་དུབ་པའི་ཚེ། A voyager who has taken a long and arduous journey, 就像旅人 经历艰辛的长途跋涉后 བཟང་པོའི་གནས་མལ་ཟས་སྐོམ་འཕྲད་པ་བཞིན། is overwhelmed with joy when chance upon a great respite filled with fine food. 偶遇一顿丰盛餐食 得以大快朵颐 འཁོར་བའི་གཙོན་རར་བསྐལ་པར་མནར་བའི་ཚེ། Likewise, when one is tortured in the prison of samsara for kalpas, 如是漫漫长刼于轮回牢狱受苦者 ཐར་པའི་ལམ་སྟོན་སྐྱབས་གཅིག་བླ་མ་མཇལ། Meeting my precious sole refuge guru through good fortune is the only way to the path of great liberation. 以善缘值遇唯一依怙珍贵上师时 方入独一无二之解脱圣道. This was composed while at the new construction site of Dhagpo Shedrub Ling monastery of Ven. Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche. When lunch was served before me at the site, the stark contrast of how temporal satisfaction can be gained from food, as compared to the matchless guru's nectar of dharma that is able to relief much of our samsaric grief and torment appeared in my mind. The thought of it evoked unbearable devotion towards guru, thus these four sentences. 在尊贵的谢拉‧嘉晨仁波切新建的道场达波‧谢竹林里，当午餐送到我面前时，我思及一种鲜明的对比──食物带给我们一时的满足，而无与伦比的上师，其佛法甘露更能消除我们在轮回中所受的痛苦与折磨，此念殷切地唤起了我对上师彻骨的敬爱，因而写下这四句偈。 |
རྨད་བྱུང་བཀའ་རྒྱུད་ནོར་བུའི་ཕྲེང་བ་ཡི། The marvelous garland of the Kagyu lineage of command, རྣམ་ཐར་རྒྱ་མཚོར་བདུད་རྩིའི་ཟེག་མ་ཙམ། Just a drop of its nectar exemplifies the model of life, མྱོང་བའི་བགོ་སྐལ་ཐོབ་འདིའང་ཚེ་རབས་འཕྲེང་། To get an opportunity to taste, it takes chains of life cycles, དཔག་མེད་དུ་མར་ཚོགས་བསགས་ལས་གཞན ཅི། Without doubt, countless time must have lapsed in order to accumulate such merits. 噶居教法传承的精深宝鬘， 只是其中的一滴甘露 便揭示了生命的典范， 能获得机会亲尝 是累世以来的福份， 这般福德 无疑是无始以来 累积的资粮。 |

ལྟ་ངན་མཁན་པོས་གྲུབ་མཐའི་རིང་ལུགས་གང་། The spiritual master who has wrong views and hold a certain doctrines, འཛིན་ཏེ་སྐྱེ་བོ་གྲངས་འདས་ལོག པའི་ལམ། And countless persons treading on the wrong path, འཚེ་བ་ཆོས་སུ་སྨྲས་སྟེ་གྲངས་མེད་སྲོག། Claiming violent acts as being the spiritual path and take countless lives, བཅད་དེ་སྦྱིན་དང་མཆོད་པའི་དུས་སྟོན་ཚེས། In festive celebration for making offering to the gods. There is feeling of sadness upon seeing so many animals being sacrificed in the name of god during the Dasain festival. I know there are so many Hindu masters and practitioners who believe in non -violence and do their practice at very high standards and that is admirable. However there are also many of them who misinterpret Hindus as people who sacrifice animals and offer the animals' blood to the god to seek shakti or power. I hope gradually this violent act will diminish and instead give rise to a pure spiritual path to accomplish the ultimate goal. |

འཁོར་བའི་མུན་ནག་ལས་ཀྱི་རླུང་འཚུབས་ཀློང་། In the midst of the gloomy, dark and stormy karmic force, 在阴沉 昏暗、如狂风暴雨的业力中， རྒྱལ་སྲས་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའི་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་རླབས། When a surge of comforting blessings surfaces, 当菩萨慈悲抚慰的加持 澎湃涌起时， དྲན་ཙམ་གྱིས་ཀྱང་འཇིགས་པ་ཀུན་སྐྱོབས་ཅིང་། Just the mere recollection of it brings forth protection from all kinds of fears and 仅系此念即获护佑 而免除所有恐惧， རྣམ་གྲོལ་ཐར་པའི་འོད་སྣང་སྦྱིན་པར་མཛད། Gives the bright illuminance of total liberation free from samsara. 并能蒙赐 彻底解脱轮回的光明。 |
Verses on Dharma |
ཤེས་བྱའི་མཁའ་དབྱིངས་རྒྱ་ཆེ་ཟབ་ཡངས་པོར། In the wide and deep expanse of phenomenal space, 在深广浩瀚的现象所知空间， འཇུག་ལ་བློ་གྲོས་པདྨོའི་འདབ་བརྒྱ་བཞད། The expansion of wisdom is like the blooming of a hundred petaled lotus, 智慧的开展如百瓣莲花盛开， ལེགས་བཤད་བདུད་རྩིའི་ཟེག་མ་རེ་རེས་ཀྱང་། Each word of elegance resembles droplets of exquisitely divine nectar, 字字善说如绝妙的滴滴甘露， རྣམ་གྲོལ་བུང་བའི་ཚོགས་རྣམས་བག་ཡངས་རོལ། Enabling bees to enjoy with blissful liberation. 使得群蜂得以享受大乐解脱。 |
འཛམ་གླིང་ཤར་ནུབ་རི་བོ་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཐང་། Crossing east to west, mountains, oceans and plains of the world, ཇི་ལྟར་ལམ་ཐག་རིང་ཡང་ཡུད་ཙམ་གྱིས། The journey can be covered instantaneously regardless the distance, བདེ་བར་བསྐྱོད་པའི་མཁའ་གྲུ་ཇི་བཞིན་དུ། By the transporter that brings great ease and comfort. Likewise, ཟབ་མོའི་ཐེག་པས་རྣམ་མཁྱེན་གྲོང་དུ་བསྐྱོད། The profound vehicle of dharma can bring us to the state of enlightenment. This was written while my flight to singapore from denmark. |
Verses for Self-Reflection |
ཐུབ་བསྟན་མ་དྲོས་མཚོ་ལྟར་རབ་རྒྱས་པར། The ever flourishing Buddha's teaching like the majestic Manasarovar lake. མེས་པོས་བསྐྲུན་པའི་མཛད་རྗེས་བཟང་པོ་དག། The monuments and noble deeds from the heritage of our great ancestors, དད་དང་དང་བས་མཇལ་བའི་གོ་སྐལ་འདིས། Even now we can witness with utmost devotion and pure mind, སྐལ་པར་བསགས་པའི་ཚོགས་གཉིས་འབྲས་བུ་ལགས། It must be the result of two accumulations from aeons of time. 1. The Manasarovar lake is located near Mount Kailash and it is believed to be the source of all the major rivers. It is also the palace of the Naga King. 2. The two accumulations refer to the gaining of merits and wisdom. These sentences were inspired by my trip to Indonesia, after admiring the ancient monuments of Samantabhadra and Tara. Similar great monuments and ruins from ancient times still remain in India, Burma, Sri Lanka, Tibet and many more countries. Though the golden time of Buddhism has gone, we are still very fortunate to be able to witness the monuments and remains of the Buddhist history. I felt very fortunate and was deeply inspired, thus immense devotion towards the Triple Gem arose. 佛陀教法兴盛传扬 就像雄伟壮丽的玛旁雍错湖， 先贤丰功伟业的历史遗迹， 使我们至今 得以深切的仰慕与清净心见证， 这必然是无始劫来 积聚二资粮的善果。 1. 玛旁雍错湖位于冈底斯山附近，人们相信此湖是大川之源，那也是龙王的宫殿。 2. 二资粮是指福德与智慧的积聚。 我在印度尼西亚旅程中，深深景仰普贤菩萨与度母的历史古迹，印度、缅甸、斯里兰卡、西藏等许多国家也有类似的宏伟古迹，虽然佛教的黄金盛世已经过去，我们还是很幸运能够见证这些佛教的历史遗迹，我感到非常庆幸，也深受感动，油然对三宝生起了无比的信心，因而写下这首诗。 |
ཕྱོགས་དང་དུས་ཀྱིས་དབྱེ་བའི་གོ་སྐབས་བྲལ། Diminishing the grasping of time and directions of samsara, ཉེ་དང་རིང་བའི་འཛིན་སྟང་ངང་གིས་ཞིགས། Dismantling the conceptual attitude towards prejudicing the close and far, རང་དང་གཞན་གྱི་བློ་ཡི་འཁྱེར་སོ་འགགས། And ceasing the mental apprehension towards self and others, ཆོས་ཉིད་བདེན་དོན་རྟོགས་ཚེ་རྣམ་པར་གྲོལ། In this way we could be liberated when we realize the truth of reality - the ultimate dharmata. 降低对轮回中时空的执取，消除对远近等的二元概念偏见，切断心念中自他的猜疑，如实地了知法界的实相。 |
དགེ་བའི་རྩ་བ་ཆུང་ངུས་ཀྱང་། By the tiny roots of merits, 即便是微小的善业根， एउटा सानो पुण्य ले पनि, འབྲས་བུ་བསམ་ཡས་འབྱིན་གྱུར་ཞིང་། Infinite results are borne. 也能结成无限的结果， असंख्य फल प्राप्त हुन्छन, ནྱ་གྲོ་དྷ་ནི་ཆེ་ན་ཡང་། However majestic and expansive the Nyagroda tree is, 就像高大的尼拘罗树， न्याग्रोधा को ठुलो रुख नै, ས་བོན་ཆུང་ངུའི་འབྲས་ལས་འབྱུང་། It sprouted and grew from a minute little seed. 是从一颗小种子长成。 एउटा सानो बिउ बाट उत्पन्न भएको. There is a story in the sutra that a huge Nyagroda tree can shield hundreds of people under its canopy. It actually grew from a very small seed. The fruit bearing the seed was eaten by a bird. Since the seed was indigestible, it was excreted by the bird and landed on the ground. With the right conditions of moisture and proper soil conditions etc, the seed sprouted and grew into a small plant. Over the years, it matured into the huge Nyagroda tree. |
ཚོགས་གཉིས་རྨད་བྱུང་གངས་ཀྱི་རི་བོ་རུ། The majestic snow mountain of two perfected accumulations (merits and wisdom), (福慧)二资粮圆满的 雄伟壮丽的雪山， དད་གསུམ་མོས་གུས་སྣང་བྱེད་ཟེར་མ་ཡིས། The radiating soothing solar rays that are devotional and complete with three types of faith (pure, longing, trust). 在充满着敬爱、 (清净、意乐、胜解)三种信心、并能慰藉人心的 阳光照耀下， བྱིན་རླབས་ཉམས་རྟོག་བདུད་རྩིའི་ཆུ་བོ་འབབས། The mighty flow of the melting snow river of all-encompassing realizations and blessings, 含摄证悟与加持的融雪 奔流而下， སྐལ་ལྡན་ཐར་འདོད་ཡིད་ཀྱི་གདུང་བ་སེལ། They relieve the mental anguish of fortunate persons who yearn to be liberated. 消除了渴求解脱的具缘行者 内心剧烈的痛苦。 |
ཆོག་ཤེས་ནོར་གྱི་གཏེར་རྙེད་ཚེ། When you found the treasury wealth of contentment, ནོར་རྫས་ཕལ་རྣམས་རིན་ཐང་བྲལ། One starts to know that ordinary wealth is not truly valuable. སྲེད་པའི་ཕུངཁྲོལ་མཐའ་ཡས་པ། Craving often causes innumerable distractions, ཆོག་ཤེས་ལྡན་རྣམས་ཀུན་ཏུ་བདེ། The one who is contented is at peace and comfort. |
རྐྱེན་གྱིས་བསྐྱེད་པའི་འདུས་བྱས་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི། All composition of phenomena are developed by conditions. ངོ་བོ་སྐྱེ་བ་མེད་པར་མ་རྟོག་པས། Not knowing their inherent nature of non-existence, བདེན་འཛིན་བརྟན་པོས་བདག་གཞན་འགལ་འདུར་འཛིན། One stubbornly perceives phenomena as being truly established and thus arises the contradictory duality of self and others. ཆག་སྡང་ཟད་མཐའ་མེད་པའི་འདམ་བུར་བྱིང་། With that misconception, one sinks within the endless quick sand of attachment and aversion. |
སྣང་ཚུལ་གྲུབ་མེད་ཞེན་ཡུལ་ངོ་བོས་སྟོང་། When there is no establishment of appearance, then there is no nature of the subject to grasp or be attached to. ཐོག་མ་མེད་ནས་གོམ་པའི་འཛིན་སྟངས་འདིས། From beginningless time, the pattern of perceptual habit of grasping has been established. འཁོར་བར་ཡུན་རིང་གནར་བའི་གཞིར་གྱུར་ན། Thus prolonging the suffering within samsara. ཉོན་མོངས་བག་ཆག་གཞོམ་པར་ཅིས་མི་བརྩོན། Why not try destroying the defilements and its habitual tendencies? |
བསོད་ནམས་བསགས་ལས་བདེ་འབྲས་འབྱུང་། From the accumulation of merits, one can achieve the result of happiness. ཡེ་ཤེས་རྒྱུ་ལས་རྣམ་མཁྱེན་བསྐྲུན། From the causes of the accumulation of wisdom, one can reach the omniscient state. དེ་གཉིས་བྲལ་བ་དབུལ་པོ་འདྲ། Without these two, it is like an impoverished person. ཇི་ཙམ་སྨོན་ཀྱང་འགྲུབ་ཏུ་མེད། No matter how ardently one wishes, he or she is not able to accomplish their goals. |
འཇིག་རྟེན་ཇི་སྙེདསེམས་ཅན་རྣམས། There are countless sentient beings in this world. ནམ་ཞིག་ཐར་པ་ཅིས་མི་ཐོབ། Eventually, all will be able to attain liberation. ས་བོན་ཇི་སྲིད་གནས་གྱུར་པ། Just like a seed remaining dormant for a long time, རྐྱེན་དང་འཕྲད་ཚེ་འབྲས་བུ་འབྱུང་། It will ultimately bear fruits when favorable conditions appear. |
ཞི་ཞིང་དུལ་བ་མཁས་པའི་རྒྱན། The ornament of the learned one is peace and humility. ཉོན་མོངས་ཆུང་བ་གྲུབ་པའི་རྒྱན། The ornament of the practitioners are lesser defilements. འགྲོ་བའི་གདུང་བ་སེལ་སླད་དུ། To eliminate the suffering of sentient beings, རང་དོན་ཁྱད་གསོད་བྱང་སེམས་རྒྱན། The ornament of the Bodhisattva is to sacrifice personal concerns and purposes. 博学多闻者的装饰 是祥和与谦卑 修道行者的装饰 是染污变少 而为了消除众生的痛苦 菩萨的装饰 是牺牲他个人的利益与追求 |
དམ་པ་ངན་ཁྲོད་གནས་གྱུར་ཀྱང་། The noble ones even in a deplorable environment, ངན་པའི་སྐྱོན་གྱིས་གོས་མི་འགྱུར། Are not contaminated by the wretched influences. ཇི་ལྟར་པདྨ་འདམ་གནས་ཀྱང་། Just as a lotus blooming gloriously from a muddy pond, བལྟ་བས་མི་ངོམས་མཛེས་སྡུག་ཅན། Its magnificent beauty and grandeur is truly captivating. |

སྐྱེས་བུ་ངན་པ་དམན་ལ་སྡང་། The bad person scorns upon the weak. དམ་པ་དམན་ལ་ལྷག་པར་བརྩེ། The noble enjoys extending a helping hand especially to the less fortunate. ཝ་མོ་རང་གི་རིགས་ལ་སྡང་། Sadly, the fox despises its own kind. ལྗོན་ཤིང་ཀུན་གྱི་ཚ་གདུང་སེལ། Regardless, the tree shields all from the heat under its loving shade. |
གང་ཞིག་ཕན་བདེའི་གཞིར་གྱུར་པ། The basis of true peace and everlasting benefits for oneself and all, དམ་པའི་ཆོས་ལས་གཞན་གྱུར་པའི། Can only be derived from the profound dharma. ཕྱི་ནས་བཙལ་བའི་བདེ་སྐྱིད་དག If one tries to find happiness externally, གཡའ་ཕྲུག་སེན་མོས་བྲེད་དང་མཚུངས་། It is like scratching the itchy skin with fingernails (superficial and often insatiable). La base d'une paix véritable et de bénéfices illimités pour soi-même et tous les autres Ne peut venir que du Profond Dharma. Si l'on essaie de trouver le bonheur à l'extérieur, C'est comme se gratter la peau qui démange avec les ongles (superficiel et souvent sans fin !). |
ཆོས་ནི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་སེལ་བའི་ལམ། Dharma is the path for the liberation from suffering, མྱུར་བའི་ཚུལ་གྱིས་སྒྲུབ་བྱ་ཞིང་། One should quickly engage and practice it. ཇི་ལྟར་དུག་མདའ་ཕོག་གྱུར་ན། Just as when one is shot by a poisonous dart, དུག་འདོན་གཙོ་ལས་གཞན་མི་གཙོ། Nothing is more important than to remove the poison from the body as quickly as possible. This means the dharma is of utmost importance for us to practice, as our lives are impermanent and full of suffering. We should not waste time to criticize, engage in idle talk or debate for the sake of debating without any proper practice. To give an example, one person asked the Buddha 'How did samsara form or when is the beginning of life?' Buddha replied that when someone is hit by a poisonous arrow, what should that person do? It is foolish if instead of removing the poisonous arrow immediately, the person asked who shot the arrow, where did it come from, what is it made of etc. Likewise, we should realize the urgency to practice dharma and not treat it with complacency. |
གང་ཞིག་སྐྱོན་དང་ལྡན་གྱུར་ན། Whatever that is flawed, ཇི་ལྟར་ལེགས་ཀྱང་དོར་བྱ་ཉིད། No matter how enticing it is, one should not engage in it. དུག་གི་མེ་ཏོག་མཛེས་གྱུར་ཀྱང་། After all, how can one wear a garland of poisonous flowers on one's neck མགྲིན་པའི་རྒྱན་དུ་ཅི་ལ་འོས། No matter how beautiful it is. |
Unwise person: ཆུང་ངུའི་བདེ་བར་རབ་ཆགས་པས། One who craves for minute happiness, སྐྱེས་བུ་དོན་ཆེན་འགྲུབ་པར་དཀའ། Has difficulties in achieving grandeur aspirations. བླུན་པོ་འདོད་བདེ་ལ་རྐམ་པས། The deluded who constantly desires pleasurable enjoyment, མཐའ་ཡས་ཡོན་ཏན་ཐོབ་མི་འགྱུར། Can never attain immeasurable qualities. |
ང་རྒྱལ་ཆེ་རྣམས་ཡོན་ཏན་ཆུང་། Those who have immense pride, they do not possess noble qualities. གཞན་སྐྱོན་སྒྲོགས་རྣམས་རང་སྐྱོན་མང་། Those who are full of criticism have lots of faults themselves. ཤིང་སྐམ་ཁོག་སྟོང་ཆུར་མི་བྱིང་། The dried hollow tree floating on the water དེ་ཕོ་ལས་མེད་སྐད་ཅོར་ཆེ། the noisy squabbling of the chickens do not serve any important roles but add to the clutter and din. |
དམན་ས་འཛིན་ཅིང་ཞི་ཞིང་དུལ། Peaceful, humble and modest; 一位详和、谦卑、稳重、 ཡོན་ཏན་འཁུར་གྱིས་དུད་པ་སྟེ། One is full of insightful knowledge and sublime qualities. 充满洞察力的智慧等殊胜功德的人， འབྲས་ལྡན་ལྗོན་ཤིང་རབ་དུད་པས། Just as a tree heavily ladened with fruits humbly lower its branches; 就像一颗结实累累的树 谦卑地低垂着枝枒， འགྲོ་ལ་འབྲས་བུ་སྦྱིན་པར་སྤྲོ། Thus readily offering its gifts to others happily. 随时快乐地提供果实给他人。 |
སྐྱེས་བུ་བཟང་པོ། Noble person: བཟང་སྤྱོད་ཡོན་ཏན་གྱིས་བལྟམས་ཤིང་། Possessor of goodness in quality and character; གཅིག་ཏུ་ཕན་པའི་བློ་ལྡན་པ། With the noble intention to constantly benefit others; ཀུན་ལས་མཆོག་ཀྱང་དམན་ས་འཛིན། He/she is amongst the supreme persons, howbeit humbly. འགྲོ་བའི་གདུང་སེལ་ལྗོན་ཤིང་བཞིན། Just as a tree assuages the intense sun’s rays to those under its shade. |
བློ་ལྡན་ཇི་ལྟར་རྒུད་ན་ཡང་། The wise, no matter what downfall they face; སྐྱེས་བུ་ཕལ་ལྟར་ཡིད་མི་ཞུམ། Do not succumb to depression like the ordinary person. རྒུད་པ་ཉིད་ཀྱང་དར་བའི་རྒྱུར། The hindrances can become the cause of progress. འགྱུར་བ་རྟེན་འབྲེལ་རང་གཤིས་ཡིན། This is the nature of interdependency, རྩེ་མོའི་ཡལ་འདབས་བཅད་གྱུར་ཀྱང་། Just as a tree when pruned, ལྗོན་ཤིང་རྒྱས་པ་དངོས་པོའི་གཤིས། can grow more vigorously. |
बड़े काम देर से होता है. परिश्रम विहीन अधीरता से नहीं होता है. नदी धीमी गति से मंजिल तक पहुँचते है. लहरें जितना तेज होने से भी ज्यादा दूर नहीं पहुँचते है. Great works can be accomplished gradually, One should not be impatient, The wind moves slow but goes far. Waves of the ocean are rapid but cannot reach far. |
རྒྱལ་བས་གསུང་པའི་དྲང་ངེས་མ་རྟོགས་ཤིང་། Without properly knowing the great Expedient and the definitive meaning of teachings expound by Lord Buddha, 未能善加了解佛陀所说权宜了义诸教法， རྣམ་དཔྱོད་བློ་ཡིས་དཔྱད་པ་རྨོངས་པ་ཡིས། Also not properly investigating through one's intellect judgement and sound conclusion, 亦未经由理智如法观察妥善判断下定论， དད་དང་ངེས་འབྱུང་བཅོས་མ་ཙམ་གྱིས་ནི། Only through superficial devotion and renunciations, 仅仅只依表面粗略之信心及浅薄出离心， ཡང་དག་ཆོས་པའི་གོ་སར་ཇི་ལྟར་བསྙེགས། How can one develop as a true noble practitioner of dharma? 何以培养造就真正高贵修持正法之行者？ |
གང་ཞིག་ཁྲོ་བའི་གཞན་དབང་གིས། When a puppet of anger གཤེ་དང་རྡེག་སོགས་བྱས་གྱུར་ཀྱང་། Scolds or even attacks you; དང་དུ་མི་ལེན་མི་ཁྲོ་ན། If you do not react or retaliate; དེ་ཉིད་རང་དང་འབྲེལ་མེད་པས། Then you have no connection with this angry person. བྱེད་པ་པོ་ཉིད་གནར་གྱུར་ན། Thus the only person who suffers is the generator of anger. སྙིང་རྗེའི་ཡུལ་ལས་གཞན་ཅི་ཞིག Such is an act of the wise with good compassion. |
རང་དོན་ཁོང་བཅང་གཞན་དོན་ལྟར་སྣང་འཆོས། Outwardly benefitting others but inwardly thinking only for oneself. 对外宣称利他暗中牟自利， ཕན་སེམས་ཡིན་ཁུལ་གཡོ་ཟོལ་སྣ་ཚོགས་སྤྱོད། Pretentiously performing out of compassion and unabashedly expressing benefitting others albeit superficially, 诈现慈悲利他无惭然浅薄， ཆོས་པའི་གཟུགས་བརྙན་ཟང་ཟིང་ནོར་གྱི་བྲན། A slave of material wealth yet feigning as highly spiritual, 道貌岸然却为资财所奴役， ལས་འབྲས་བསླུ་མེད་ཡིན་པ་ཅིས་མ་མཁྱེན། Why did I not strive to realize the inevitable karmic cause and effect? 何不勤习业力因果之不昧？ |
རང་ཉིད་འཁོར་བའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཆ་མ་འཚལ། One who truly does not know what is samsaric suffering, 没真正了解轮回的痛苦 བཅོས་མིན་ངེས་འབྱུང་རྒྱུད་ལ་མ་སྐྱེས་པར། Unconditional renunciation does not stir. 便无法生起真正的出离心 འགྲོ་རྣམས་འཁོར་བའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ལས་དགྲོལ་བའི། Alas! One claim to be liberator to the suffering of sentient beings, 唉! 虽自许救护众生远离痛苦 བྱང་སེམས་རློམ་པ་དོན་ལ་སོ་སྐྱེ་ཉིད། By boasting as a Bodhisattva when one is only mediocre. 自豪为菩萨却不过为中下之士 |
ཐོག་མ་མེད་ནས་གོམས་པའི་བག་ཆགས་ཀྱིས། (Due to) accumulation of habitual tendencies since beginningless time, 无始以来习染累积故， བདག་འཛིན་རྩད་ནས་གཅོད་པར་མ་ནུས་པས། One is unable to uproot the attachment to the self; 无法根除自我之爱执， གསར་དུ་བསྐྱེད་པའི་མཐོན་པོའི་ཉམས་སྣང་འདི་། Newly developed superficial realization alike, 徒长浅薄表面的体悟， ལེགས་པར་བརྟག་ཚེ་ང་རྒྱལ་ཁོ་ན་ཉིད་། Results only in more ego clinging with careful investigation. 细察仅得我执增厚果。 |
ཐར་པའི་གོ་འཕང་ཁྱིམ་ན་གནས་ཀྱང་འགྲུབ། The state of liberation can be achieved even if one remained at home as a seemingly ordinary lay person. 即便表面上是一般居士，也能修证解脱的境界； ཁྱིམ་པ་ས་ལམ་མཐོན་པོར་བགྲོད་པ་མང་། There are numerous exemplary lay persons who reached high bhumi levels and paths. 以居士身份成就高阶的五道十地 典范不胜枚举； ཇི་བཞིན་མ་སྒྲུབ་རི་ཁྲོད་གནས་ཀྱང་སྡུག། On the other hand, one who remains solitary in the mountains but does not practice properly will not make any spiritual progress. 反之，居住深山却未如法实修 修行便无法进步； འཕྱི་བ་དོང་ནང་ཟླ་གྲང་ཉལ་བ་བཞིན། Just like a marmot which hibernates and remains dormant for several months underground and achieves nothing. 就像土拨鼠在地底冬眠了几个月 没有任何成就。 |
སེམས་རྒྱུད་དུལ་བས་ཉོན་མོང་དགྲ་བོ་འཇོམས། If one's mind is tamed, it is possible to conquer the entire enemy of defilements. 调服自已的心，便能降伏所有的烦恼敌； ཉོན་མོང་བཅོམ་པས་བདག་འཛིན་ངང་གིས་ཐུལ། If one tries to destroy defilements, it is possible to subdue attachment effortlessly. 若摧灭了烦恼，便能不费力地驯服我执； བདག་འཛིན་བྲལ་བས་བྱང་སེམས་ཤུགས་ཀྱིས་སྐྱེ། The Bodhichitta will arise valiantly if one is detached from attachments. 若能消融我执，菩提心便能英勇地生起； བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་མཆོག་ཐམས་ཅད་མཁྱེན་པའི་རྒྱུ། Finally, the Bodhichitta is the main antecedent of sublime omniscience. 菩提心终究是无上全知境界的主要前提。 |

ཕན་པའི་བསམ་པ་གཅིག་གིས་ཀྱང་། Just by a single compassionate thought to benefit others, 只是一个慈心利他的念头， འགྲོ་བའི་ཕན་བདེའི་གསོས་གྱུར་ན། It can play a healing medicinal effect for sentient beings' happiness and well-being. 便能带来利乐众生的疗效， བཟང་པོ་སྤྱོད་པའི་གོ་བགོས་ནས། If one puts on the armour of noble conduct, and 那么穿上高贵行谊的盔甲， བྱང་ཆུབ་དོན་གཉེར་དེ་བས་མཆོག Strives for the ultimate enlightenment, this can be far more potent in the curative effects. 力求究竟证觉所带来的疗效，就更不用说了。 |
ཟབ་མོའི་དོན་ལ་ཐོས་བསམ་བྱས་གྱུར་ཀྱང་། Even if one studies and contemplates on the profound meaning of dharma, 即便听闻并思惟了甚深的法义， ཡུན་རིང་གོམས་པའི་བག་ཆགས་ཤུགས་དྲག་འདིས། The strong force of habitual tendency that was developed since beginning-less time remains. 无始以来所熏染的习气依旧顽强， ཉོན་མོངས་རྩ་བ་དྲུང་ནས་མ་བཅད་བར། Therefore until the root of defilement is cut off, 因此只要烦恼根尚未断除， ངེས་ཤེས་བརྟན་པ་མ་ཐོབ་ཐ་མལ་ཉིད། One is unable to achieve the stability and pure faith towards the dharma, and remains an ordinary person. 便无法对佛法生起清净坚定的信心，而依旧是凡夫。 Penned whilst en route from Pokhara to Kathmandu. 书于波克拉到加德满都的旅程中 |

དལ་འབྱོར་གྲུ་ཆེན་འདྲ་བ་ཐོབ་གྱུར་ཀྱང་། The precious leisure and accomplished vessel (body) though acquired, 雖已獲此閒暇圓滿身， དོན་མེད་རྣམ་གཡེང་ལེ་ལོའི་དབང་གྱུར་ནས། Is easily destroyed and manipulated by unnecessary laziness. 易受無義懈怠所主導， ནམ་ཞིག་དམ་ཆོས་དྲན་ཀྱང་གོ་སྐབས་ཟད། Eventually when one finally recollects the importance of Dharma, 最終憶起佛法甚重要， དེ་བས་ད་ལྟ་ཉིད་ནས་འབད་པར་རིགས། By then, much valuable time has lapsed and thus it is appropriate to put in good efforts to practise without hesitation. 韶華已逝故當及時修。 |
ཇི་ལྟར་བློ་དམན་སྐྱེས་བུ་འགའ། Alas, some unwise persons lacking prudence, 唉 就像不智之人却乏审慎, སྨད་འོས་སྤྱོད་ལམ་སྤྱད་པ་ཡང་། When they perform disgusting acts and behaviours, 当他们做出低劣的行径时, རྒྱན་དང་འདྲ་བར་ངོམས་གྱུར་ན། Are brazenly showing off like pompous ornaments and accessories. 还招摇炫耀就像华而不实的首饰及配件, དེ་ལ་བསྟོད་པ་ཇི་ལྟར་འོས། How can that be praise-worthy? 哪能值得赞美呢。 |
ཀུན་སློང་མ་དག་རང་ཉིད་རྒྱལ་བར་འདོད། With impure intention for personal glorification, 以不纯净的动机追求自己的尊荣， ལྟར་སྣང་དགེ་ཚོགས་ཕྲན་བུའི་འབྲས་བུ་ཡིས། Resulting in superficial accumulation of merits, and 造就了近似善业福报的资粮， བསོད་ནམས་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་གཞན་ལས་ཆེ་བར་འདོད། Expecting to obtain the greatest material gains. 期望获得最大的财富利益， ལས་ངན་རྣམ་སྨིན་བྱུང་ཚེ་ལོག་ལྟ་སྐྱེས། Without which and as a result of the non-acquisition of wealth, one develops wrong view towards the dharma. 一旦落空没获得财富便对佛法产生邪见， དེས་ན་ཀུན་སློང་དག་པའི་དགེ་སྦྱོར་འབད། Thus, one should practice dharma wholeheartedly with utmost spiritual purity. 应当一心一意清净地实修佛法。 |
རང་ཉིད་དམ་པར་རློམས་ཀྱང་ཐ་མལ་པ། Self-praising as a lofty noble person yet still ordinary. 自赞崇高但仍然平庸， བྱས་ཚད་ཆོས་སུ་རློམས་ཀྱང་ཚུལ་འཆོས་ཅན། Unabashedly boasting all actions are in accordance with dharma but in disguise only, 不害臊地吹嘘 所行一切如法 却只是伪装， སྤྱོད་ལམ་གཞན་ཕན་རློམས་ཀྱང་རང་དོན་ཙམ། Proclaiming behaviour as benefitting others but in truth for selfish reasons, 宣称所作是为了利他 事实上却是为了自己， འགྲོ་བའི་སྐྱབས་གནས་རློམས་ཀྱང་རང་ཕུང་ཉིད་། One deceiving as a saviour of every being, sadly is ruining own life. 假装自己是个救世主 悲哀的是 毁了自己 |
གསར་དུ་བཞད་པའི་པདྨོའི་མཚར་སྡུག་ཅན། The ravishing beauty like a fresh blooming lotus, 如清新绽放的莲花 令人陶醉， ལུས་ཀྱི་འཁྲི་ཤིང་མཉེན་ལྕུག་ལྡེམ་པའི་དཔལ། The soft, delicate and nimble body like young blossoming creeper plants, 娇美纤巧的身躯 如鲜嫩的藤蔓， གནག་སྣུམ་དབུ་སྐྱེས་ལན་བུ་སྐེད་སྐབས་འཕྱང་། Shiny locks of jet black hair cascading freely to the waist, 从亮丽的发辫 乌黑的秀发 直泻到腰间， མཐོང་བའི་མོད་ལ་བརྟན་པ་འཕྲོག་བྱེད་ཀྱང་། With a mere glance one's stability plunders. 仅是一瞥 定力便垮榻， དུས་ཀྱི་གཞོན་པས་རིང་པོར་མི་ཐོག་པར། Yet, the non-stopping vehicle of time drives within a short moment, 然而 时光之车不停运转 在一瞬间， རྒས་ཤིང་རྒུད་པར་བསྐྱོད་ཚེ་སྐྱི་གཡའ་བའི། Reaches the destination of terrifying aging and deterioration. 驾驶到衰老可怕的终点， ངང་ཚུལ་འདི་ལ་བལྟས་ཚེ་ཞེན་རྒྱུ་ཅི། Seeing such a state, will there still be a feeling of attachment? 了解这样的状况 还会有甚么贪恋？ དེ་བས་དལ་འབྱོར་སྙིང་པོ་ལེན་ཉིད་མཆོག། Therefore it is supreme to grab the essence of this leisure and accomplished precious human body. 因此 最好的是 把握这珍贵瑕满人身的精华。 |
ཉོན་མོང་རྐྱེན་གྱིས་གཡོ་བའི་རྣམ་རྟོག་གིས། The concept that is driven by the forces of defiled conditions, ལེགས་ཉེས་འབྱེད་པའི་བློ་མིག་རྨོང་གྱུར་ཀྱང་། One is baffled by the eye of intellect to identify the right and wrong, གཞན་མགོ་སྐོར་བའི་ཁ་བཤད་སྦུ་བ་ཡིས། Yet, one talks like a bubble with the intent to deceive others. ཡིད་སེམས་གཡོ་བ་མང་ནའང་ངོ་མཚར་ཅི། That is not wonderful to be able to sway the minds of many, གཟུར་གནས་བློ་ལྡན་བ་སྤུའང་ལྡང་ནུས་མིན། But it is not possible to move even a single hair of a wise person. |
བློ་ལྡན་གང་ཞིག་སེམས་དངས་བས། The wise ones always with clear minds, 智者恒以清明心， བྱ་བ་གང་ལའང་རྟོག་དཔྱོད་ཀྱིས། Properly investigates whatever they are doing. 如理观察所做事， ལེགས་ཉེས་འབྱེད་དེ་འཇུག་པ་ལས། With that they distinguish right from wrong before action. 明辨是非而后行， ཟེར་རྗེས་ཅལ་འགྲོགས་ཕུང་བའི་རྒྱུ། Those who succumb to others' rumors and simply act without examination often end in failure. 人云亦云未善察, 随谣言行常失败。 |
དཀར་མིན་ལས་ཀྱི་རྣམ་སྨིན་སྐྱི་གཡའ་བ། The result of unwholesome karma is trembling fear. ངེས་པ་རྙེད་ཀྱང་ཉོན་མོངས་བག་ཆགས་ཀྱིས། Even when one is totally convinced of such karmic effects, yet due to the powerful force of defilements and habitual tendencies, གཅིག་ཏུ་མི་དགེའི་ལས་ལ་འཇུག་པ་དག One constantly engages in unwholesome actions. ཕྱེ་ལེབ་མར་མེར་འཆོང་དང་ཅིས་མི་མཚུངས། Isn't it similar to the moths senselessly jumping into the flames? |
གང་ཞིག་རང་གི་སྐྱོན་ལ་བསྟོད། Those who blindly lavish praise upon their faults and silly ways, ཡོན་ཏན་མི་འཛིན་བླུན་པོ་ཡིན། They do not possess true qualities and are unwise. ཕག་པ་མི་གཙང་ཟས་ལ་དགའ། Coprophagous boars sniff out and even thrive on contaminated food like faeces. བོང་བུ་འཁུར་གྱིས་ལྕི་ན་རྒྱུག། Donkeys will only run when the burden of load is heavy. (There is an old Tibetan saying that donkeys will only work when given tough conditions. Thus the reflection on their foolishness.) |

ཆུང་ངུའི་མེ་སྟག་རླུང་དང་རླན་གཤེར་ལས། When the tiny sparkle is mixed with air and moisture, 当微小的火花与大气、湿气结合， འབར་ཤིང་བསྐྱོད་པའི་འཕྲུལ་གྱི་འཁོར་ལོའི་ཤུགས། Moving of mechanical wheel with force of blasting, 以爆发的力量催动机械力学之轮， མྱུར་དུ་བསྐྱོད་ཅིང་འདེགས་པའི་གཤོག་འདབ་ཀྱིས། Moving fast, lifting up and expanding the wide་ wings, 迅速移动起飞、展开广阔的双翼， གྲངས་ཡས་དཔག་ཚད་བདེ་བར་བགྲོད་འདི་མཚར། Amazingly gliding comfortably for countless miles. 惊奇地翱翔舒适自在飞越无数里程。 Can you guess the subject of these verses? 猜得出 这偈诗句的主题是什么吗？ |
འབྱུང་བའི་ཤུགས་དང་སྐྱེ་བོའི་རྣམ་དཔྱོད་ཀྱིས། The power of elements and intellect of human, 地水火风等元素 结合人类的智慧， འཕྲུལ་གྱི་ནུས་པས་ས་དང་བར་སྣང་སོགས། Generates machineries that move on earth, sea and space. 产生了地上海上天上 运转的机器， ཅི་བདེར་བསྐྱོད་ཅིང་དོན་རྣམས་མྱུར་འགྲུབ་པ། Comfortably accomplishing many purposes swiftly, 迅速带给我们 许多的舒适与便利， ཚན་རིག་རིན་ཆེན་ཕུང་པོའི་དོ་ཟླ་མིན། The knowledge of science and technology is incomparable to the value of heaps of jewels. 科技知识的宝贵 远胜堆聚的珍宝。 These verses were written while journeying from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Modern technology should be appreciated as it aids us to work comfortably and swiftly with little effort. 因感佩现代科技的便利，让我们得以舒适而迅速地进行工作，故于波克拉到加德满都途中造此偈文。 |
མཁའ་ལམ་ཡང་པོར་རྒྱུ་བའི་གནམ་གྲུ་ཡིས། ཡུད་ཙམ་གྱིས་ནི་བདེ་བར་བགྲོད་ནུས་པ། དུས་རབས་རིགས་གསར་ངོ་མཚར་རྨད་བྱུང་འདིས། གནས་སྐབས་འགྲོ་བའི་རེ་སྐོང་རྨད་དུ་བྱུང་། ཅེས་པའང་ཕྲན་རང་ཌེན་མག་ནས་སུའི་སི་ལ་བསྐྱོད་སྐབས་སུ་བྲིས་པའོ། The airplane which can fly in wide space, it is able to reach most destinations within the shortest moment. གངས་ཪིའི་མུ་འཁྱུད་དལ་འབབས་ཉལ་འགྲོའི་རྒྱུན། Soothing melody of trickling river interweaving the chain of snow mountains, 潺潺溪流柔妙的音律 与绵延不断的雪山交织， ལྷུང་ལྷུང་འབབས་པའི་ཡུལ་ལྗོངས་གཡུ་ཡི་མདངས། Brilliant turquoise valley teeming with luxurious greenery, 色彩艳丽如绿松石般 绿意盎然的翠谷， མཚམས་སྤྲིན་ཉི་ཟེར་གྱིས་འཁྱུད་གསེར་མདོག་ཀྱིས། Golden hues of dusk piercing evening clouds, 黄昏的金色光芒 穿透薄暮的云霞， སྣོད་ཀྱི་ཞིངས་འདིའི་ངོ་མཚར་སྐབས་གསུམ་འདྲ། This wonderful world seems like a wondrous realm of god. 这个绮丽的世界 就像是美妙的天界。 This was composed while I was thinking of Nepal as my home. Same time I also realize every place has its own beauty and that is directly connected with each individual's good karma to experience. |
སྐྱི་སེར་རླུང་དང་ཁ་བའི་གྲང་ངད་ཀྱིས། The harsh winter gale from the freezing snow mountains, 一阵彻骨的寒风从雪山吹来， ཉམས་ཆུང་ལུས་ཁམས་བཟོད་དཀར་གྱུར་པའི་སྐབས། These weak elements of the body cannot withstand. 使虚亏薄弱的身体难以承受， སྣང་བྱེད་ཟེར་མའི་ཚ་དྲོད་འཕྲོས་པའི་མོད། Basking in the warm and comforting radiance of the sun, 徜徉在舒适温暖阳光下取暖， སིམ་བྱེད་ལུས་སེམས་དགའ་སྤྲོའི་པདྨོ་བཞད་། Both body and mind like the delicate petals of the lotuses unfurl and blossom delightfully. 身心顿然清安细致 如绽开的莲花花瓣。 |
雄伟的雪山 环绕山谷， 灵秀的河川 本源清澈， 草原 泉水 湖泊 赏心悦目， 享此美景妙境 岂非福厚之人？ ལྷུན་ཆག་གངས་རིའི་བསྐོར་བ་ཁ་བའི་ལྗོངས། The majestic mountains of snow encircling the valley, དངས་གཙང་ཉལ་འགྲོའི་འབྱུང་ཁུངས་ཉམ་དགའ་བ། Source of beautiful rivers with pristine and clean waters. མཚོ་དང་རྫིང་བུ་ནེའུ་སིང་ལྟ་ན་སྡུག། Magnificent meadows, spring waters and ponds, བསོད་ནམས་ཅན་གྱི་བགོ་སྐལ་ལས་གཞན་ཅི། Who else but the very fortunate enjoys such a remarkable environment? In Tibetan poems, idioms are very often used to provide allusions, enhance the intrigue of the poems and also not to repeat the same names. Here, in the Tibetan version, the River is addressed as "moving while asleep". This river lying on the ground appears asleep when in fact it is very much awake with its waters flowing and interweaving the land. |

One must see the pain and suffering as a prerequisite for appreciating well being and happiness. One can generally not be there without the other. Just be careful that you do not do suffering as a bad habit, but move on. Like an alcoholic who knows that it is harmful to drink, must stop it. |
Traveling is a mixture feelings of missing your close people from this end of the world and at same time anticipating to meet new experiences, new faces and close ones from other side of the world. Its very much like a flow of our lives also. We are always on the move to look for some thing and only very few will chose to look for the path. |

བསླུ་མེད་རིན་ཆེན་གསུམ་གྱི་བྱིན་རླབས་དང་། By the unfailing grace of the Triple Gem, གང་ཉིད་ལྷག་བསམ་དག་པའི་ནུས་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས། And by the power of pure and great motivation toward others, འགལ་རྐྱེན་བར་ཆད་གཡུལ་ལས་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་ནས། May you be victorious over all unfavorable obstacles, ཕན་བདེའི་འབྱུང་གནས་ངོ་བོར་རྟག་བརྟན་ཤོག And eternally sustain as an ever-enriching source to benefit sentient beings. ཅེས་པའང་སྒྲུབ་དཔོན་བླ་མ་ཤེས་རབ་རིན་པོ་མཆོག་སིངྒ་པུར་དུ་སྨན་བཅོས་ཆེད་ཕེབས་ཀྱིས་འདི་གར་སྨན་བཅོས་ལམ་ལྷོང་ལེགས་པོ་བྱུང་བར་དགའ་དད་སྤྲོ་བས་བྲིས།། This is written after Ven. ཨེ་མ། དགུང་སྔོན དབྱིངས་སུ་ལྡིང་བའི་འཕྲུལ་གྱི་བྱ། Ema! The mechanical bird that flies high in space, གྲངས་མང་སྐྱེ་བོ་དཔག་ཚད་སར་སྒྲོལ་བཞིན། Crosses over miles carrying lots of persons and loads. ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་ཏིང་འཛིན་ཤེས་རབ་ཐེག་པ་ཡིས། Likewise the morality, samadhi and wisdom vehicle. འགྲོ་རྣམས་མི་གནས་མྱང་འདས་སར་བགྲོད་ཤོག། May everyone cross the Samsaric state to the non-abiding Nirvana. |
དམ་ཆོས་མདོ་སྔགས་པདྨོའི་སྐྱེད་ཚལ་དུ། In the exuberant lotus garden of sutras and tantras of dharma, 在生意盎然的经教密续的莲花花园中, སྐལ་ལྡན་རྣམས་དཔྱོད་ལྡན་པའི་བུང་བ་རྣམས། The fortunate bees like discerning spiritual ones, 有福气的密蜂喜欢寻找善知识, སྙིང་པོའི་དོན་ལ་སྦྲང་རྩིའི་བཅུད་གཞིབས་ནས། Extract the nectar like quintessence meaning of dharma, 撷取佛法要义的甘露, རྒྱལ་བའི་ཡོན་ཏན་སྟོབས་ཀྱིས་རབ་ཕྱུག་ཤོག May they develop abundance of mighty glorious qualities and accomplishments. 愿他们都能充分培养殊胜的功德与成就。 |
诸佛大悲光普照，驱散众生闇钝云； 智光遍照故显明，四身原色无碍现。 |
གཞི་མེད་ཀུན་གྱི་གཞིར་གྱུར་སྣང་སྲིད་ངོས། Baseless yet base for all appearances and existences, 一切存在万物所依本无依， གཡོ་ཞིང་མཛད་མེད་ཆུ་གཉེར་ལྟ་བུ་ཡི། Moving unceasingly like ripples of the ocean, 犹如海洋泛起涟漪无止尽， ཀུན་རྟོག་བདེན་འཛིན་བག་ཆགས་དྲུང་ནས་ཞི། May we completely cease the conceptual grasping of truly existence with habitual tendency, 愿执着实有习染彻底平息 འགག་མེད་སྐུ་བཞིའི་རྒྱ་མཚོར་འཇུག་པར་སྨོན། And ultimately merge into the great ocean of accomplishment of the four kaya. 究竟融入四身成就之大海。 (The four kaya refers to the four bodies of the state of enlightenment. The first Dharmakaya pertains to self achievement while Sambhogakaya, Nirmanakaya and Svabhavikakaya relate to the accomplishment for benefitting others.) ཀུན་རྟོག་དྲྭ་བས་སྦྲེལ་བའི་གུར་ཁང་དུ། Conceptual thinking spreading like tent webs, ཆོས་སྐུའི་ངོ་བོ་ལྷན་ཅིག་སྐྱེས་པའི་སེམས། Trapping the nature of the co-emerging mind of dharmakaya essence, བདེན་ཞེན་འཛིན་པའི་དྲྭ་གུར་ཞིགས་ནས་སུ། Dismantle the illusion of a seemingly existing network of webs and tentage system, ཁྱབ་བརྡལ་ཆེན་པོར་འཆིང་མེད་རང་གྲོལ་ཤོག Intrinsically, may we be untangled so all-encompassing relaxation can take place. |
སྐལ་བཟང་སངས་རྒྱས་མངོན་འཚང་རྒྱ་བའི་གནས། In the holy land of attainment of enlightenment for thousand Buddhas of fortunate kalpas, 在贤劫千佛证觉成佛的圣地， རྒྱལ་དབང་མཐིང་དམར་ཅོད་པཎ་འཆང་ཟུང་གིས། The presence of both the supreme black and red crown holders, 无上的黑红宝冠两法王座前， ཀུན་བཟང་སྨོན་ལམ་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་རླབས་ཕྲེང་ལས། With ceaseless waves of aspirations according to Samantabhadra, 愿普贤行愿祷文愿力无尽波， འགྲོ་བའི་སྡུག་ཀུན་ཞི་ནས་བྱང་ཆུབ་འགོད། Leading every sentient beings into the ultimate permanent state of enlightenment along with immediate temporal elimination of all sufferings. 引领众生趣入究竟恒常果位，速疾平息一时的各种痛苦。 Thus I make my aspirations and good wishes in conjunction with the grand Kagyu monlam at Bodhgaya. 如是我在菩提迦耶噶居祈愿大法会进行当中 献上我的祈愿与祝福 |
བདེན་མིན་བདེན་པའི་ཀུན་རྫོབ་སྣང་ངོ་རུ། In the appearance of seemingly true yet not true, 从如幻似真的显现中， འཆར་མེད་འཆར་བའི་འཇིག་རྟེན་སྣ་ཚོགས་སྣང་། Various elements of the world, in the real state of nothing to be perceived, are being perceived. 见实无可见的种种世间元素， འཁོརམེད་འཁོར་བའི་རྩ་བ་དྲུང་ཕྱུངས་ནས། Cutting the root of cyclic existence within the non-existence of cyclic existence. 从非实有的轮回中断轮回根， ཐོབ་མེད་ཐོབ་བྱའི་རྣམས་མཁྱེན་མྱུར་ཐོབ་ཤོག། Devoid of omniscient state, may everyone attain complete Enlightenment. 愿众生证实无可证之全知境界。 Explanation:- 1. This verses is referring to ultimate truth vs relative truth. 2. All appearances are ephemeral and transitional things found in this world, i.e. the perception of reality is only relatively true. 3. In the absolute sense (ultimate truth), there is no samsara, yet we keep circling in samsaric existence. 4. In the absolute sense, there is no omniscient state to be attained. Nonetheless, wishing complete Buddhahood upon everyone. |
མཛེས་སྡུག་དཔལ་ཡོན་གཅིག་ཏུ་རབ་སྤུངས་ཤིང་། གཉིས་སྣང་ཡིད་ཀྱི་སྣང་ངོར་མཚར་སྡུག་དག སྐབས་གསུམ་པ་ཡི་གནས་ལའང་ཅོ་འདྲི་བ། ཕུན་ཚོགས་སྡེ་བཞི་བསོད་ནམས་ལས་སྐྲུན་པའི། ཕུང་ལྔའི་ཡུལ་དུ་ཡུལ་ཅན་བཀྲ་ལམ་མེར། ཚོགས་དྲུག་ཡུལ་སྣང་རང་སར་ངོ་འཕྲོད་ནས། འཁོར་འདས་མཉམ་ཉིད་ཆེན་པོར་རབ་འཇུག་ཤོག ཅེས་པའང་ཛུ་རིག་གནམ་གྲུའི་བབ་ཐང་དུ་ཅི་བདེར་གནས་པའི་སྐབས་ཡུལ་ལྗོངས་ཀྱི་མཛེས་སྡུག་རྣམས་མིག་ལམ་དུ་ལམ་མེར་འཆར་བར་རྟེན་གང་དྲན་བྲིས་པའོ། |
The existence of samsara appears from the conceptual mind. The state of enlightenment arises from the non-conceptual mind. Both are borne from the gem-like treasure of wisdom. Through this wisdom, may all attain the enlightenment that is sameness of samsara and nirvana. |
སྣང་བའི་ངོ་བོར་ལྟས་ཚེ་རྙེད་དུ་མེད། མེད་པའི་ངོ་བོར་རྟག་ཚེ་ངོས་བཟུང་བྲལ། གཉིས་ཀའང་ཡོད་མེད་མཐའ་བྲལ་ངོ་བོས་སྟོང་། གནས་ལུགས་དོན་ལ་གཞི་རྩ་ཆོད་པར་ཤོག When perceiving the nature of appearances, one cannot find its truth. When perceiving the nature of non-existence, one is unable to recognize its absoluteness. Both are free from existence and non-existence which are lacking reality. May we be able to fully grasp the meaning of ultimate truth. |
ཐོག་མ་མེད་ནས་གོམས་པའི་བག་ཆགས་ཀྱིས། ཡ་མཚན་སྲིད་པའི་བདེ་སྡུག་ལུ་གུ་རྒྱུད་། ལས་ཉོན་འཆིང་བའི་མདུད་པ་དམ་པོ་དག གནས་ལུགས་ངོ་འཕྲོད་སྦྲུལ་མདུད་རང་ཞིག་ལྟར། ཅིར་སྣང་ཆོས་སྐུའི་ངོ་བོར་འཚང་རྒྱ་ཤོག Due to habitual tendencies developed since beginningless time; The chain of sufferings and enjoyment in the world of existence arises from the play of karma and defilements. May everyone recognize the true nature and thus be liberated from all ties like a snake uncoiling, and May whatever arises be recognized as the nature of the Dharmakaya state of enlightenment. |

གྲུབ་བརྙེས་གངྒའི་ཀླུང་གི་བྱེ་སྙེད་ཀྱིས། ཉམས་སུ་མྱོང་བའི་ཕྱག་ཆེན་བདུད་རྩིའི་ཟེག རྨད་བྱུང་དད་བརྩོན་ཤེས་རབ་ཟབ་མོ་ཡིས། འགྲོ་བ་ཀུན་གྱི་སྙིང་ལ་འཇུག་པར་ཤོག The siddhas who have realized ultimate truth are as many as the sands of the Ganges River. They have practiced and tasted every drop of nectar of Mahamudra. May the Mahamudra realization enter into the hearts of everyone who has excellent devotion, diligence and profound wisdom. |

ལྷོ་ཕྱོགས་མ་ལ་ཡ་ཡི་དྲི་བཞོན་དག། The flow of southern Malaya's 南方玛拉雅馥郁的馨香， ཉལ་འགྲོའི་གཏེར་གྱི་གཞོན་པའི་རྒྱུད་མར་ནས། Breezes through the treasure of rivers (ocean), 微风吹拂飘过川流宝汇(海洋)， ཚ་གདུང་རིང་བཅིལ་སིམ་པ་བསྐྱེད་མཛད་ཀྱང་། Enabling the destruction of pain from heat and bestowing soothing comfort, 息恼热诸苦赐恬静安适， རྒྱལ་བའི་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་གཏེར་ནི་གཞལ་ནུས་མིན། The victorious power of benevolence is far more immeasurable. 诸佛慈悲神威难以尽测。 1. The ancient name of south India is Malaya. Back then many sandalwood trees were grown. The sandalwood fragrance carried by the wind spread to all directions and masked bad odor, thus giving comfort to everyone. 玛拉雅是南印度的古名，当时那里生长了许多旃檀树，微风吹拂时，旃檀的香 气飘散到各处，盖过不雅的气味，带给众生抚慰的安适。 2. The treasure of the river is described as the ocean, as all rivers eventually gather and meet in the ocean. 川流之宝乃海洋异名，百川纳海故称之。 |
རི་བོང་འཛིན་པའི་བསིལ་ཟེར་སྤྲོས་པ་ལས། ཚ་གདུང་རིང་དུ་བཅིལ་ནས་སིམ་པ་ལྟར། རྒྱལ་དང་རྒྱལ་སྲས་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་བསིལ་ཟེར་གྱིས། འཁོར་བའི་གདུང་སེལ་གཏན་བདེའི་རྒྱལ་སར་འགོད། When the moon radiates cool and comfort beams, It chases away the suffering of heat and darkness, and brings forth refreshing and comforting feelings. Likewise, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who exude their cool aura of blessings and compassion, they relieve the suffering of samsara and lead us to the state of permanent bliss. |
གང་དངའབྲེལ་ཚད་ཡོན་ཏན་ཡར་ངོར་འཕེལ། You who increase our noble qualities like the waxing moon by making connection. 您依缘令吾等功德 如新月般逐渐盈满 གང་ལ་བཏུད་པས་སྐྱོན་རྣམས་རིམ་གྱིས་འགྲིབ། You who gradually diminish every faults by us paying reverence. 令吾等透过恭敬心 过失得以逐一消除 གང་ཞིག་འགྲོ་བའི་ཕན་བདེའི་གསོས་གྱུར་པ། You, the giver of every benefit and peace for all beings, 您带给一切众生 所有的利乐与平静 གང་གི་ཞབས་པད་སྤྱི་བོའི་རྒྱན་དུ་བཀུར། You, I fervently pay homage to with your lotus feet above my crown. 我至诚恭敬顶礼 以您的莲足作为我的顶严 Whilst at Kathmandu city doing some work, suddenly the thought of my precious gurus whose immeasurable kindness life after life is irrevocable and which cannot be repaid struck my mind. Q&A – Recitation of Buddhas’/Bodhisattvas’ names and mantras
Question: Some people, particularly the Chinese, like to recite
Buddhas’ and Bodhisattvas’ names such as Namo Amithaba and
Avalokitesvara. Others prefer to recite Buddhas’ or Bodhisattvas’
mantra like Om Mani Padme Hung. What are the differences between
reciting Buddhas’/Bodhisattvas’ names and Buddhas’/Bodhisattvas’
mantras?
Answer: The recitation of Buddhas’ and Bodhisattvas' names is a unique
Buddhist practice. Recitation can have many different purposes and styles.
1. Buddha and Yidam mantra recitation is to absorb the qualities of
body, speech and mind of such enlightened state. The mantras are
accomplished words from the Buddhas while they were at the developing
stage. They have made aspirations to benefit or even liberate sentient
beings upon recitation of such names or mantras. Once they attained
enlightenment, their names or mantras achieved accomplishment and thus
anyone who sincerely recites their names or mantras is able to develop
the quality of the Buddha.
2. Generally, name recitation can remind one to follow the footsteps
of such Buddha, and thus to observe whatever that is favourable to
develop that enlightened quality. So this will have great positive
impact on our day-to-day changes in our habitual behaviours and
tendencies.
3. Mantras and names are also recited by ordinary people as a form of
protection. Somehow, this is commonly practiced and it does create
some impact on protection against temporal fears.
4. Mantras are only recited under the practice of Tantrayana or
Vajrayana and that requires oral transmission and initiation. Mahayana
and Theravada practitioners can recite the names of Buddhas and
Bodhisattvas.
Whoever recites the names or mantras will receive the benefits
according to the motivation and wishes established by the Buddhas and
Bodhisattvas. Thus, such recitations should be done more often and
preferably on a daily basis until it becomes a good habit.
Q&A – On Meditation
Question: I heard meditation is quite difficult in the start, is this true? How can we overcome the problems during meditation?
Answer: It depends on how you regard meditation. Generally, awareness is meditation and that is actually part of our lives. Without that, we can't function well so partial meditation is already a part of our lives. We need to improve to more advance levels of meditation so that awareness and mindfulness will constantly be with us and thus we don't make mistakes anymore.
So it might be rather difficult in the beginning due to the non-establishment of the ground or basis. Eventually, it will be well integrated into our daily activities and so not difficult to maintain. In order to improve further, one still needs to work hard always until the attainment of enlightenment.
Q&A – On Pujas
Question: Would doing pujas, in general, be more beneficial if it's continued for a longer period of time (a month) or during the 4 auspicious periods? Or would doing pujas at a monastery with many lamas and ensure the effectiveness of the puja?
Would it be wrong to assume that lay devotees would have to do this (the chanting etc) for the whole life?
Let me elaborate further. I read somewhere that due to each individual's karmic debts or affinity, the ability to receive the merits/blessings would result in how much the person can absorb, as lay devotees or ordinary people. As lay people, we have so much negative karma, as compared to lamas, tulkus, Rinpoches as they have had past lives of strong merit bases as compared to lay people.
Answer: Doing puja for certain purpose is usually more beneficial on auspicious days as merits multiply many times on such special days. Also, the puja is more effective if a person with proper motivation request the Sangha community to conduct the puja. This is because the Sangha upholds the Vinaya precepts and thus they can be considered pure. Sutras also mentioned that Sangha "… are the perfect field of Merits". In this way, pujas conducted by Sangha can be much better than any other persons. Thus, merits are greater and with that more effective.
There are many lay practitioners who are good practitioners. It depends on the background of the layperson. Not every layperson is impure. In Tibetan tradition of Buddhism, there are many great masters who are not monks. Yet, they surpassed most monks in terms of spiritual practice and attainments. So it really depends on individual's achievements.
Q&A – Language used in Pujas
Question: When I go for Tibetan Puja, it is conducted in a language that I do not understand. So I tend to lose focus and develop stray thoughts. During the Puja, is it okay if I chant mantra like OM MANI PADME HUM? Or must I focus and listen to the chanting by the Sangha?
Answer: There are many types of puja according to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. For instance, there are recitations of sutras and performance of tantric rituals.
Two types of people are involved in such activities. The first group of people is those who do not understand what is going on and the second group refers to those who know exactly what is going on. So there arise two different situations as one group tries to understand and follow up according to the visualization and contemplation while another group may feel the blessing by simply listening to the chanting.
So if you do not understand and is unable to follow due to language problem, or even if you can't focus on one subject for a length of time, then the best thing would be to think positively and recite some mantras. It is not compulsory to focus on the puja or understand what is going on. Switch your mind towards wholesome thoughts and recite a mantra that you like or know best. That will be of great benefits.
