The Great Compassionate Chenrezig Prayers
If the Great compassion had a form, it would be in the form of the Great Cherenzig. If Universal Love has a face, it would be the face of the Great Cherenzig. It is the vow of the Great Cherenzig to rescue all sentient beings from the suffering of Samsara until Samsara is void of existence of all sentient beings.
The recitation of the profound six syllable mantra, as said by the Completely Enlightened One, Lord Buddha, will bring unsurpassable benefits and merits. It has the power to liberate sentient beings from all six realms at one recitation of these profound six syllables.
From the 25 Aug 2006, prayers to the Great Compassionate One: Cherenzig will be held to benefit all sentient beings, including loved ones who have departed as well as loved ones who are still struggling in Samsara. Followers are encouraged to pick up recitation counting forms to record their recitations of the six syllable mantra.
The counting form is made up of a stupa with the seed syllable of Cherenzig: "Hri" in the heart of the stupa. Offerings can be made by colouring these offerings. There are 30 items (Each item has been numbered) that can be coloured and one item represents 108 recitations of the Six Syllable Mantra. One form will make 3000 mantra recitations. Complete one form and one set of offerings will be completed. Please note that the yellow forms are for loved ones who have departed while the red ones are for loved ones who are still around us, still suffering in Samsara.
By the merits that have been accumulated from the recitations of the Six Syllable Mantra, we pray for peace and harmony to prevail throughout the world and for all sentient beings to develop Universal Compassion and Love for all mother sentient beings. Through the powers and the merits of their own recitations and the blessings of the Guru, the Buddha, the Dharma and the Noble Sangha, may all followers be blessed with aspirations to work ceaselessly towards the liberation of oneself and the liberation of all sentient beings. Little though 3000 recitations may seem, proper aspirations and motivation built on Great Bodhicitta will call forth immense blessings from the ten directions and the three times. Followers may write their wishes on the slips of counting forms and pray for the well-being (red for loved ones alive and yellow for deceased loved ones) of loved ones.
The Green Tara Fire Puja
In the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, there are many different types of pujas and many ways of performing a prayer. One of the more common pujas is the Fire Puja. One of the benefits of the Fire Puja is to clear obstacles and obscurations caused by defilements of the body, speech and mind accumulated since the beginning of time. The Fire Puja is also an effective way of accumulating merits.
There are four activities or four aspects to every Yidam Practice:
- 1. To pacify: To pacify is to appease and clear away obstacles and calamities such as sickness and to purify oneself of unwholesomeness.
- 2. To Increase: To increase or expand would be to pray for one's longevity, health, wisdom and merits to expand and increase.
- 3. To Overcome: To overcome is to tame. The motivation of this activity of crucial as it should be for the benefit of the sentient being and not for the selfish reason of benefiting oneself.
- 4. To Subdue: To subdue or to dispel is an activity that can and should only be performed by a Bodhisattava who has the right motivation: Great Bodhicitta. This activity is only meant for spirits and unseen obstacles that are so vicious and malicious that it can be tamed by no other means.
