Shangpa Rinpoche's Trip to Tibet
29 June - 10 July 2007
Shangpa Rinpoche took a group of Singaporean Devotees (the Vision Group) on a pilgrimage trip to Tibet in Mid 2007. We have over 50 images to share with you from that auspicious visit to holy sites of Tibet, as well as these words from one of Rinpoche's devotees:
"The trip was initiated by Ven Shangpa Rinpoche who wished to visit Tibet again. As a result, the Vision Group helped Rinpoche to plan the tour of holy sites. The group of devotees left Singapore 29 June and stayed in Tibet until 10 July 2007. Shangpa Rinpoche said that his aspiration was to connect his devotees Buddhist seed there and make a strong connection with Tibet. He wanted us to see the path where Guru Rinpoche built Samye Monastery and also many other old monestaries. This would then lay a foundation with beautiful memories left behind for us to practice if we are keen to follow the path of Vajrayana practice.
The response of the group was very positive, as we went to Tibet with about 130 devotees. We were very proud that we were able to sponsor the painting of 5 statues including Jowo Rinpoche in Jokhang temple. This was done with the making of strong aspirations to benefit all sentient being. We also did lots of lighting of lamps and made donations to the various monasteries we visited. We are also very thankful to Kunsang Rinpoche that he arranged for all of us to meet 2 old Nyingma Rinpoches from Mulan monastery and lamas in Lhasa.
At Yangpachen monastery, we felt the closenest of the Lamas and villagers who welcomed Ven Shangpa Rinpoche and us after waiting for many hours as we were delay due to transportation problems. From their faces, we saw the pure and great devotion they had toward Ven Shangpa Rinpoche that touched us very much. The rituals, Mahakala dances, offerings of foods to welcome us were something very new. We all felt great joys and had a greatly meaningful and powerful experience with this holy trip.
We'd like to once again thank Shangpa Rinpoche for enabling us to have such a beneficial and wonderful experience in Tibet."
