For Chinese New Year 2009, Shangpa Rinpoche and the lamas led the fortunate disciples at Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre through a series of pujas for auspiciousness in the new year, purification of obscurations and praying that the new year be without obstacles.

December 2008 - At the Kagyu Institute of Buddhist Studies, Rinpoche gave out certificates to students who completed the short one month course on Lamp of the Path to Enlightenment and the Prayer of Mahamudra. During Christmas eve, he also joined in the celebrations organized by the students who prepared some sumptuous food for the occasion. Rinpoche bought fruit juices, a cake and ice cream to contribute to the feast. Two days later, he led most of the students for the long course in a pilgrimage to Milarepa's Cave (Tiger Cave at the Lion's Palace) in Yolmo.

Rinpoche attended the Monlam and subsequently visited the holy places of Sarnath and Nalanda with Tseyang Rinpoche and a group of Lamas, Ani Yeshe and devotees.

Rinpoche performed the blessing ritual at the Stupa consecration at Muktinath.

In the morning at Jangchub Choeling Monastery, there was a grand Guru Rinpoche Tsok offering and in the afternoon, there was an Amitayus initation which Shangpa Rinpoche gave upon request by a family from Mustang and devotee named Susan. Around 700 to 800 people turned up.
